For many years, short-term clinical programs for addiction rehab have been the standard. There are numerous other rehab options, but short-term treatment centers still offer many people a solid start to recovery. Most addiction treatment programs provide short-term inpatient care for those who seek sobriety.
Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge (PAATC) has an intensive short-term treatment program. Through this program, we address clients’ mental health and recovery goals with a wide range of substance use disorders. To learn more about our short-term treatment options, reach out to us today. How Does a Short-Term Treatment Program Work?
Starting when you enroll, we will create your individual recovery treatment plan. At PAATC, that plan will include everything from medical detox through your therapeutic protocol and discharge.
While in our short-term treatment center, you will have access to a wide range of evidence-based therapies, peer support, and faith-based treatment.
Short-term treatment works because it is residential and intensive. Typically, you will not leave the rehab center for the duration of your treatment. Instead, you will engage daily in numerous therapies and activities that empower you on your recovery journey.
Medically Supervised Detox
The first step is always detox. You must be physically free of drugs and alcohol before you can begin recovery in earnest. In a detox program, you are cared for round the clock by a team that includes doctors and therapists. Medications can be administered to ease your withdrawal symptoms, and any underlying issues, physical or mental, can be addressed if they arise.
Therapy
An integral part of short-term rehab is mental health treatment. It is paramount that, with an experienced counselor, you address your mental health and nurture the psychological process as you reach for sobriety. You can then discover underlying false beliefs, prior trauma, or other contributors to your substance use. Behavioral therapies are top of the list of effective treatments and include:
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Group therapy
- Individual therapy
Family Counseling
Bringing the family together for counseling as you walk the path of recovery is almost always advisable and very therapeutic. Under the guidance of a therapist, you and your family will learn to communicate freely, honestly, and compassionately, address prior hurts and damaging habits, understand each person’s experiences around your addictive behaviors, and generally work to heal family wounds.
Peer Support
Support from others with similar lived experiences and goals is extremely helpful in recovery. In a short-term treatment center, you will likely have access to both group therapy, with guidance from a licensed counselor, and support groups such as a 12-step or SMART Recovery program.
What Happens After Our Short-Term Program?
Often a short-term program will be the first step. You may step down into an outpatient program after discharge or go directly to an aftercare program. Ultimately the goal is long-term success for you in your recovery.
Many of the clients who attend our short-term program attend our long-term, faith-based treatment program later in the recovery process. For many people, this treatment option is highly advantageous and allows them to gain a greater understanding of themselves. They are then more able to handle their recovery.
Seek Short-Term Treatment at PAATC
When you enroll in our short-term rehab program, you will be actively engaged throughout to maximize the benefits of treatment. The short-term treatment gives you a very strong launchpad for your ongoing recovery. When the treatment process is over, you can discuss with the PAATC team what the best next steps are for you. You will have developed skills and learned the steps for good decision-making. Still, if further rehab treatment is advisable, outpatient programs can support you as you pursue sobriety.
