Our short-term addiction treatment model has long been a standard approach to the start of recovery. There are numerous other options nowadays. However, a short-term clinical program remains an effective care model for many people suffering from substance use disorders. If you are looking at our short-term treatment programs to see if one might be right for you, you are on the path to recovery already. We don’t offer 30-day treatment programs, because lengths of stay can vary and our treatment team will tailor a plan to meet the individual’s needs.
To find out more about short-term alcohol rehab, drug rehab, or treatment for co-occurring disorders, reach out to Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge (PAATC). You will talk with a professional who can answer your questions about rehab, the process, and what to expect from short-term treatment. It’s easy to connect with us. Just dial 888.546.2579 or complete our online form.
What to Expect from a Short-Term Treatment Program
Once you decide to enter a short-term treatment program, the following is a shortlist of some of what you can expect.
- Intake – This is when someone takes down your history, including medical, psychiatric, and addiction history. They’ll be interested in whether you have a mental health diagnosis, underlying physical issues, or a history of relapse. They’ll also get your permission to gather records from your physicians.
- Treatment plan – The treatment team will create an individualized treatment plan based on the intake and your personal needs. It will include the therapies you’ll receive and a schedule for your days.
- Enrollment – As you begin a short-term residential treatment program, you will move in and start your healing with detox.
- Discharge or step-down – Our short-term treatment programs are often the first step. You and your care team may decide you need to step down into an outpatient program. Another option is aftercare, which is the last phase of treatment and eases you back into your life.
Short-Term Residential Treatment at PAATC
When you enroll in PAATC’s short-term treatment program, whether that is our short-term alcohol rehab or our short-term drug rehab program, you will have access to evidence-based care and other proven modalities that support healthy recovery.
The effectiveness of short-term treatment is due to the fact that it is intensive and residential. For one month, clients do not leave the center to focus all their time and energy on the therapies and activities that support recovery. They also develop self-care strategies, human connections with peers and staff, and new skills and behavior patterns that will help with success after discharge.
In short-term residential treatment, you will have access to:
- Medically managed detox – Withdrawal from all substances is the first step, and it can be very challenging without help. In medical detox, you’ll receive medications to ease your symptoms and therapeutic support to help you with psychological challenges. Our team will watch over you to keep you safe if any previously undiagnosed medical or psychiatric conditions appear.
- Evidence-based therapies – In one-on-one sessions with your therapist or group therapy, you will engage in some form of therapy. Chances are you’ll experience a behavioral therapy like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). You’ll face and address your mental health status, and all your care will be trauma-informed to protect you from any underlying triggers that appear during the process.
- Peer support groups – Proven effective time and time again, peer support groups such as 12-step or SMART recovery programs help in countless ways.
- Family involvement – If appropriate, your family will be able to participate in certain therapy sessions. The committed and caring involvement of the family helps with the client’s recovery as well as the healing of the entire family.
